There are many ways you can get involved with the Good Grief Center. Volunteer opportunities are described below. In addition, we welcome volunteers who are willing to share their talents in such areas as Data Base Management, Marketing/PR, Newsletters, Public Speaking, and Fundraising. If you have a skill that you would like to offer GGC, please let us know.
Volunteer Job Descriptions:
Peer Support Volunteer
An initial interview with GGC staff is required for everyone who is interested in volunteering. GGC provides an intensive training for Peer Support Volunteers who are responsible for the primary, day-to-day supportive contact with individuals who visit or telephone GGC. Responsibilities include:
- Complete initial and ongoing education and training.
- Employ active listening skills.
- Provide peer support on the telephone or in person.
- Refer clients to support groups, organizations, and/or therapists.
- Maintain a log of callers and visitors.
- Recommend books, videos, pamphlets, and other resource materials.
- Attend required team meetings for additional education, training and support.
- Work closely with the staff and other volunteers.
Organizational Support Volunteer
An initial interview with GGC staff is required for everyone who is interested in volunteering. Organizational Support Volunteers are responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Good Grief Center. Responsibilities include:
- Greet visitors as they enter GGC.
- Answer telephones, record and forward telephone messages.
- Assist with computer related tasks.
- Catalogue books, videos, pamphlets, and other resource materials and monitoring the lending library.
- Assist with filing of records and papers.
- Assist with ordering and storing supplies.
- Assist with special events and programs.
- Work closely with the staff and other volunteers.
